Skin needling is an exciting, non-invasive cosmetic procedure that is used to smooth fine lines and deep wrinkles, skin pigmentation problems, acne or surgery scars, and skin that no longer looks and feels youthful. A small device covered with tiny needles is run across the skin to create harmless micro-injuries that trigger the skin into stimulating the production of smoothing collagen. After just a few treatment sessions your skin will be softer and more youthful in appearance!
If this sounds exciting to you, then join us as we go through the steps of skin needling before and after so you can know what to expect from your treatments should you decide it sounds like something that would benefit you! Following the correct program of pre-treatment preparations will ensure that your treatment will produce your desired results as well as minimize any of the rare, but possible, side effects. Use these tips to get started!
Before Your Treatment – Here is how you can prepare yourself!
- Don’t use any topical agents like topical antibiotics, acids, retinoids, or exfoliants that could increase your skin’s sensitivity in the week before you are scheduled for your treatment.
- Don’t use Accutane during the six months prior to starting any treatment sessions.
- Avoid using any blood thinning agents during the week before your skin needling treatment, they can lead to the side effect of bruising.
- Anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen should not be consumed for at least 3 days prior to your microneedling session because they can interfere with the natural inflammatory process the needle triggers that fosters your skin’s rejuvenation.
- Don’t expose your unprotected skin to sunburn, or undergo any IPL/Laser procedures in the 2 weeks before your treatment.
- Do not use any depilatory creams, electrolysis, or waxing on the area of skin being treated in the week prior to your treatment.
- Don’t shave the treatment area on the day of the procedure, it could cause skin irritation. If the area has dense hair, shave it the night before your appointment
- If you often suffer from cold sores you should consume an antiviral agent for at least 2 days before and on the day of your treatment.
On The Day Of Your Treatment – Here’s what to expect on the day of your needling treatment!
- Your skin technician will clean the area to make sure its free of makeup, powder, sunscreen or lotions.
- You will be asked if you are undergoing any new medical issues or taking any new medications.
- Lidocaine, a topical skin anaesthetic, will be applied to your skin. The procedure is relatively painless.
- The needling treatment typically takes around one hour to complete.
Being well-prepared is an integral part of ensuring your skin needling treatment goes smoothly and produces the desired results. Professionals performing HIFU services suggest following this checklist to help you prepare for your skin needling treatment. Once you show up for your appointment, it’ll be smooth sailing!
After The Treatment –
- Don’t use any anti-inflammatory medications for one week afterwards.
- Don’t put ice on the treated area, it can interfere with the natural inflammatory process that rejuvenates your skin.
- Stay out of direct sunlight for at least 2 weeks. If you must go outside use 30 SPF or higher sunblock and wear a hat.
- If you experience any soreness take an over-the-counter painkiller like Tylenol.
Skin needling is a wonderful way for you to look wonderful!
