No One Can Hurt You

“People don’t have the power to hurt you. Even if someone shouts abuse at you or strikes you, if you are insulted, it is always your choice to view what is happening as insulting or not. If someone irritates you, it is only your own response that is irritating you. Therefore, when anyone seems to be provoking you, remember that it is only your judgement of the incident that provokes you. Don’t let your emotions get ignited by mere appearances.

Try not to merely react in the moment. Pull back from the situation. Take a wider view, compose yourself.”

The Meaning of Life

When you look at your life – what are the things that give you purpose? I mean deep down purpose for the reason you get out of bed and lay your head down at night. Is it your job, the new car, the big house or yacht? Or is it your family, church or local community project?

I have ridden the center of the proverbial fence and had a desire for both. The past 16 months or so have been such a great experience. Putting this site together and the impact it has had on so many is humbling. As you prioritize your future, your families future or simply look to gain a better understanding of life outside your region – continue below.

Please meet Mr. Narayanan Krishnan, an award winning chef from Madurai India.

Krishnan was visiting a temple in the south Indian city of Madurai in 2002 when he saw the man under a bridge. Haunted by the image, Krishnan quit his job within the week and returned home for good, convinced of his new destiny.

“That spark and that inspiration is a driving force still inside me as a flame — to serve all the mentally ill destitutes and people who cannot take care of themselves,” Krishnan said.

Krishnan founded his nonprofit Akshaya Trust in 2003. Now 29, he has served more than 1.2 million meals — breakfast, lunch and dinner — to India’s homeless and destitute, mostly elderly people abandoned by their families and often abused.

“Because of the poverty India faces, so many mentally ill people have been … left uncared [for] on the roadside of the city,” he saidn – Source CNN Heros Feature

Anyone of us can contribute money to a cause. What I ask is this, what cause can you donate your most precious resource – your time.  A friend recently made the statement that there is one core energy that connects us all. That one energy, that one core aspect of humanity, that one life trait which is universal – LOVE.

Are We Really All Connected?

Throughout the day we come in contact with dozens of people. From the emails, social media, work, commute and the stops along the way. One thing that I learned today through my “encounters” hence the image (if you can tell me the film reference I will give you a high five) is we are all connected. There is so much to learn, take and use in our personal development if we so choose to be aware.

Below is a snap shot of some of the people that made up my day and one thing I learned from each of them.

Chelsea Fine – You Have a Voice – and There is Someone Out There That Wants to Hear What You Have to Say

I had the chance to interview Chelsea for the radio show today. From freelance artist to an amazing author, mother and wife. She has this raw energy that powers through her in conversation. As we discussed the journey you can’t help but sit on the edge of your seat to hear what happens next. She is an amazing lady and powerhouse in her genre.

Brandon- It’s Good To Challenge Things, Be Calculated.

From his time at Apple, running into Steve Jobs in the cafeteria one day having lunch to dealing with hundreds of small business owners at Infusionsoft, he has a love for what he is doing. With two new babies and an awesome wife (her singing voice is amazing) he is looking for creative ways to grow and push the envelope doing what he loves and providing for his beautiful family.

Sustainable gardening my man – you are on to something. Keep pushing that direction.
Sean Mysel – Have an Opinion, It’s Alright to Ask For Help

I met Sean through a mutual friend who recommended we connect based on our sports background. Sean has this awesome talent of being able to tell compelling stories through words. His clients hire him to drive more business through marketing methodologies he deploys. Yet he draws you into things with his uncanny ability to pull you into the characters he shares. Side note his personal writings are killer and his posts crack me up.

We talk or message daily from 90s rock to feedback on work and clients. Dude is a stud and I am happy to call him a friend.

Kris Can – If You Have a Talent, People Will Be Interested

Kristen has a new upstart that is focused on baby accessories. Her stuff is killer and baby max is hooked already. She has this great personal network of business minded women, stay at home mothers and small business owners. We were discussing putting together a mastermind group where I can share the last 20 years of what I have learned in building business. IE. Defining your market, sizing the opportunity, building a business plan, design work, websites, marketing, social media, how to monetize your offering & raising funds.

I was going to charge for this, yet I have been given a a unique opportunity in life to be where I am. I want to share that at no cost, simply to help those who really are interested in doing something more.

More to come

Jennie Kay- Sleep is Over Rated, Mama Bears are the Strongest

It’s has been 3 weeks now and I would like to say the house is coming into order with Baby Max home. ERRRRR Wrong. She is operating on 2 hours of sleep intervals. Then the older kids have simply become assholes. I can say that on facebook right? It doesn’t have to be how great things are, can I share real shit?

She is in the middle of it all day and night. Her strength amazes me multiple times a day. She is the glue that holds this mess together. I am not sure what we did to deserve you baby, but we wouldn’t be here without you. We all love you so much.

As I close things down for the night it is amazing to think of all the kick ass people that have made my day just that much better. Tomorrow you will have these same chances with the people you encounter. How will there stories change you for the better?

It Feels Better to Do Stuff Than to Have Stuff

It Feels Better to Do Stuff Than to Have Stuff  – James Wallman

Two things manifested in my Facebook feed back to back. One was the above quote from Becoming Minimalist. The other was an article posted by my friend Tori from the Elite Daily titled, People Who Spend Money on Experiences Instead of Things are Much Happier.

When you break this information down an interesting thing starts to happen. I love to get the latest gadget, pair of shoes or fresh gear. It’s not just the excitement of acquiring these things, it’s also the excitement of using these new things. One word came up as I was discussing this with my wife, moderation.

Every year our family takes a vacation to Encinitas California. We all come in from around the United States to meet and share 10 days as a family, at the beach, eating, drinking, laughing and sharing memories. My wife and I had a debate on the above topics and comparisons. As we unpacked the differences, a few examples stood out. Yes we spent money on our trip and on things while we are on our trip. It is fun picking up new gear that we can’t get back home. Then I caught a glimpse of my wife’s cell phone.

On the screen saver is a picture of my daughter and son at Moonlight Beach holding hands getting ready to head into the water. It is something out a Come to California brochure. It is also one of my all time favorite pictures and memories. I asked my wife what is one things she will remember most about this years trip. Spoiler alert – it had to do with the kids on the beach, not the new scarf she bought.

Kiddos Beach

Life is about memories, not diamonds.

Just think about it: At the end of your life, are you going to be reminiscing about the fact that you had an iPhone 6 Plus while everyone else was still using the 5, or are you going to recall golden memories you shared with the people who shaped who you’ve become?

The summer is a great time to build memories. Save a bit of cash and take a quick road trip. There are always discounted flight and hotel deals that come up. The time we have here is precious, spend it on memories that will last forever.

Nepal Earthquake 2015 – Join Us Around The World Documentary

STATS: Every person in the world should have access to clean water
  1. 85% of the world population lives in the driest half of the planet. 750 million people do not have access to clean water and almost 2.5 billion do not have access to adequate sanitation. 6 to 8 million people die annually from the consequences of disasters and water-related diseases.
  2. Every minute a child dies from a water-related disease.*

Top 10 Regrets In Life By Those About to Die

Recently The Elephant Journal posted a great story on living a specific day as if it were your last. How and what would you do? Now take a step back and lets not get morbid before the weekend. But really ask yourself what will you be reflecting on at the final moment, and how can you assure your treasures out weigh your regrets.

I can easily see myself asking some of these same questions. As we live our day to day and plan for the future, how can we assure we focus on what means the most?

  1. I never pursued my dreams
  2. I work too much and never and time for my family
  3. I should have made more time for my friends
  4. I should have said I Love You a lot more
  5. I should have spoken my mind more instead of holding back and resenting things
  6. I should have been a bigger person and resolved my conflicts
  7. I wish I had children
  8. I should have saved more money for my retirement
  9. Not having the courage to live truthfully
  10. Happiness is a choice I wish I knew that a lot earlier

Fun Fact – Creativity

Creativity 2

I love the weekends, especially summer weekends. It’s a great time to be outside, get some sun and be with friends and family. When time allows I break away and assure I am doing something with the left side of my brain. Creativity helps set the stage for other areas that increase cognitive thinking.

The above infographic shares great ideas and facts around being creative.

Make time to build, think or create before you head into Monday. Your mind and heart will thank you.

The Art of Living

“Now is the time to get serious about living your ideals. How long can you afford to put off who you really want to be?

Your nobler self cannot wait any longer. Put your principles into practice – now. Stop the excuses and the procrastination. This is your life! You aren’t a child anymore.

The sooner you set yourself to your spiritual program, the happier you will be. The longer you wait, the more you’ll be vulnerable to mediocrity and feel filled with shame and regret, because you know you are capable of better. From this instant on, vow to stop disappointing yourself. Separate yourself from the mob. Decide to be extraordinary and do what you need to do – now.”
